The story
Long before food pantries and charity drives, God gave His people a plan for the hungry. He wrote it right into the harvest:
"When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest… You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the LORD your God."
— Leviticus 19:9–10 (ESV)
He said it again in Leviticus 23:22. The edges of the field weren't the farmer's to strip bare. They were set aside on purpose, so the poor, the widow and the stranger could come and gather what was left.
The best-known example is Ruth. She was a widow in a foreign land with nothing to her name, and she went out to glean in the field of a man named Boaz (Ruth 2). He didn't just tolerate it. He told his workers to leave a little extra for her. It was a small act, but it carries a big lesson. What we grow was never fully ours to begin with. We're stewards of it, and part of stewardship is planning for the people who have less. Ruth's gleaning brought provision, then a family, and eventually the line of King David and Jesus Himself. Generosity that seems small in the field can grow into something far bigger than the giver ever sees.
Why it matters to us
We want to follow Christ in everything we do, and that includes the farm. When we read about the corners of the field, it stuck. It's generosity built into the work itself, planned before the harvest instead of tacked on after.
We'll be honest: leaving the corners of our garden unpicked wouldn't feed many people today. Mostly it would feed the geese, and they're doing fine. So we're keeping the idea and changing the field.
How The Corners works
- 10% of every sale. Ten percent of every Kruger Farm Workshop plan sale and every merch sale goes to The Corners. It's our tithe, set aside before we count anything as ours.
- Given where we're led. We don't have one fixed charity. We give where our hearts feel led, and that will likely change over time as we see different needs.
- Free plans, too. We'll keep releasing free Workshop plans as another way to give. Take one, build something, no strings.
Give with us
If you'd like to leave a corner of your own, you can give to The Corners directly. It all goes to the same place ours does: wherever the need is that season.
Online giving coming soon
No pressure, and no guilt. Buying a plan, wearing a hat, or just reading along is plenty.
Where the corners go
We'll share updates here from time to time on where the corners went and who they helped. It's not to keep score. We'd just like you to see what your part made possible.
