The Farm

Hi, we're Collin & Mae.

We run a small family farm in northern Wisconsin, up in Door County, with a flock of chickens, ducks and geese and a garden that gets bigger every year.

We're Collin and Mae. We raise chickens, ducks and geese, grow a garden, and build just about everything the farm needs. Mae cooks from scratch with whatever the farm gives us. Collin draws up plans so you can build it too.

Mae left for one weekend. I ended up nursing a runner duck I think has hardware disease and found 11 surprise chicks under the duck house. In October.

Our Chicken Coop Makeover: No More Poop Shelf, More Roosts

Our hens were laying eggs on the poop shelf, so I tore out the inside of the coop, added angled roosts, and found my new favorite cleaning tool.

Starting Over: How the Grass Won Our First In-Ground Garden

Our first in-ground garden got smothered by grass, so we tilled it back down through rocks and old fence wire. Here's our plan for a better spring, plus more garlic.
